The history of parachuting

Parachuting, from the beginning of its occurrence, enjoys unprecedented popularity. And if you decide that this extreme sport is only for the stronger sex, you will lose. Because the lion’s share in the development of parachuting falls precisely on the weak population of the globe.

Women have made a significant contribution to the development of parachuting. Such an extreme lady was at one time the Frenchwoman Eliza Garnerin. Her career as a paratrooper was a success. She had 60 jumps on her account, and all of them were performed perfectly and successfully.

XX century can be called the century of aviation. It was at its beginning that the rapid development and application of new aggregates fell. All this did not contribute much to success in parachuting. Since the means of aviation were imperfect in design, this caused a lot of tragic outcomes during the flights. But, as the pioneers are always aware, it is always difficult, and it is precisely the discoverers who risk more than others. One of the paratroopers who tragically died during the tests was Caia de Castella.

Since 1930, a large-scale popularization of parachuting in Russia began. For this purpose, educational institutions were created where instructors were trained to train young people in parachute jumping. Komsomol members at that time were advertising agents who were involved in attracting young people to this new sport. One of the first such schools was the Higher School of Paratroopers – Osoaviahim. In 1933, over 1,000 jumps were performed by young athletes here. And in the summer of that year, Moscow parachutists held their first meeting in Tushino. The time of world parachuting championships came only in 1951. After 30 years, the parachute commission covered already 60 countries.

In the 21st century, this sport is developing rapidly and attracts more and more attention, it is popular among young people.
