BASE FAQ, or why not (part1)

1. Q: I already have 100 jumps with AN-2 and one with MI-8! How can I put PO-9 series 2 to jump from the roof of an adjacent 22-storey building?
A: as neat as possible. However, it doesn’t matter; he still won’t open.

2. Q: but I don’t jump at all. I’m just curious – why is this all?
A: I don’t know. If anyone can explain it, I’ll go to nirvana.

3. Q: what’s the difference between jumping from an airplane and BASE?A: these are two different sports. IMHO differences:

Psychological:

BASE jumping acts on the brain as a powerful psychedelic. The hundredth BASE jump causes the same sensations as the first jump from an airplane. You get used to jumping from an airplane, fear quickly disappears.

BASE causes subconscious, animal horror regardless of the number of jumps. The night jump from the antenna surpasses any situation or drug I have experienced in its effect on the brain.

BASE makes you control abnormally high levels of fear and emotions, think rationally in the face of severe stress and enjoy it all.

BASE acts like a filter – standing on the edge, it is extremely clear that you separate the things that are important for you in this life and the husk.

BASE is about what happens in the head. That which is outside is secondary. Simply put, BASE is a psychological (psychedelic) sport, jumping from an airplane is technical.

Physical:

In both cases, we jump with a parachute. On this, the similarity in most cases ends. When jumping from an airplane, we have enough height and time for entertainment, soft disclosure of the basic, calm assessment of the situation, uncoupling and opening the reserve. More importantly, we have clean air around – all that is needed to save life is an open dome, where and how it flies is generally unimportant. Then we have a huge field for landing, the ability to hang out on it calmly after landing and even a doctor just in case.

Now BASE jump: the height varies from 50 to ~ 1500 meters, which completely changes the approach to the projectile, bag, equipment, etc. In most cases, jumping somewhere in the range of 100..300 meters, there is simply no height for the reserve.

The tendency to open below the minimum reserve height exists even at high jumps, therefore, in the general case, BASE jump = one dome.
Time: a typical 800m airplane discovery leaves 16 seconds to think and act. A typical discovery for a BASE jump occurs
2..5 seconds before collision with the ground / object.

The main thing that determines the difference between airplane and BASE jumps: the presence of an object. Instead of clean air, when falling and at the time of opening, we have a more or less narrow sector of space, the exit from which is equivalent to a collision with an object. Such a collision almost always leads to serious injury or death. Of the ~ 40 corpses in the history of sports, more than half died after hitting an object.

!!! Collision with an object is the main danger when jumping from it !!!

Even a perfect discovery does not solve anything. Most of the objects for jumping were not originally intended, and no one really thought about landing sites. In addition to the micron size of the sites and filth such as stones, wires and cars on them, the situation is exacerbated by turbulence from the object itself and its surroundings in the form of houses, trees or rocks. Unlike airplanes, where we are only concerned about wind speed (and that is not particularly), the direction is vital in BASE – many objects are accessible only with a strictly defined direction and strength of the wind.

Further, the jump from the plane ends after a successful landing.
Illegal BASE jump (the basis of the sport) continues until all participants get home safe and sound. People who believe that Russia does not care for everyone can ask Drops what he did in the bullpen for a day or so after jumping from the factory pipe.
